Our First Murphy Bed Project in URBN Escalante
Here’s a look at a murphy bed project we installed at URBN Escalante in San Jose. It’s built of pine plywood (because that’s the best material structurally for our Murphy beds) and cedar.
Shoutout to our awesome clients who are so very proud of their new bedroom furniture! Thanks for being so generous and letting us share these images of the installation.
They chose to play up the look of the pine and cedar by leaving all the wood in its natural colors and using only a matte finish.
Creative Solutions for Small Spaces
This apartment is in a modern concept building that offers an abundance of really beautiful shared spaces. However, the actual space inside the apartment is itsy-bitsy.
We absolutely love projects like this that require creative solutions for small spaces. Therefore, we were thrilled to when the owners asked us to design this custom furniture.
It’s hard to convey just how small this apartment actually is. Even in the before photos, where you can see their old bed. It’s hard to conceptualize that this room would barely fit a queen size bed with two night tables.
Just to give you an idea of everything this build included, it has:
- a queen size murphy bed
- an L-shaped couch with orthopedic cushions
- 7 cabinets and three drawers for storing and organizing all their stuff
- a coffee table (that includes one of the drawers and also serves as the support for the bed when it is down)
- three flat, pivoting LED lights — one above the mirror and two inside the recess of the bed
- a set of tiny shelves above the headboard that have electrical outlets and a switch for the lights on the left side of the bed, along with a “night-table-nook” that is tucked into the side of that left side cabinet, that has an electrical outlets and a switch for the lights on the right side of the bed
- a jewelry armoire with lots of little shelves, a Murphy makeup table, and a full-length mirror door.
The video above was shot at about 7:30 at night after a long day of installation — we were all very excited to see it completed.
